On January 192010, the state of Massachusettsheld a Special Election to see who would be taking over the senate seat left vacant by the lateTed Kennedy. The contest was regarded as a close one between Republican Scott Brown and Democrat Martha Coakley. As the voting begins,Massachusetts exit polls and Massachusetts election results will begin to become available and will be made available here.


According to the Wall Street Journal, there may not be exit polls released prior to the results of the January 2010 special election as generally in cases where a blowout win is expected, exit polls are not released. Per their report and a January 10, 2010, headline by the Boston Globe, Martha Coakley had a significant lead in the polls at 15 points.5


During the 2008 presidential election Barack Obama was declared the projected winner of the state of Massachusetts minutes after polls closed at 8 p.m., which was confirmed after precinct reports came in.Fellow Democrat John Kerry has also been declared the winner in his campaign for re-election to the Senate. The state ofMassachusetts has 12 electoral votes.7
